FIDE Candidates 2024 and Challengers for the World Champion Title
What a fascinating tournament in the Open Section of the FIDE Candidates in Toronto! 4 players were separated by half a point only after 13 rounds out of 14 (Gukesh, Nakamura, Nepomniachtchi and Caruana) and all 4 players still had the possibility to win the tournament! Caruana in a winning position vs Nepomniachtchi missed the right move and finally drew. Gukesh also drew vs Nakamura and so the 17-year-young Gukesh from India defended his lead, won the tournament and will be the challenger for the World Champion Title. He will play later in the year against the current world champion Ding Liren (32 years old) from China.
In the Women Section, Tan Zhongyi from China won the tournament with a lead of 1,5 points. She had a very good start in the tournament and was in the lead during all the time. She will be the challenger for the Women World Champion Title and will play later in the year against the current world champion Ju Wenju, also from China (both 33 years old).
